Rose Shenson Show 2008

It is time again to ready your paintings, photos, or carvings for participation in our annual exhibit @ the Rose Shenson Gallery (located on the grounds of the Triton Museum of Art, 1505 Warburton Ave., Santa Clara, CA). We will be displaying our art work during the month of September, so drop off date will be August 30th from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Our show will be open Saturdays & Sundays (9-6-08 through 10-4-08).

Reviewing some of the procedures
  1. The charge for one entry is $5.00 and $10.00 for two or more entries.
  2. Most artists enter 5 paintings. They should be for sale, but we do accept NFS entries. (We need a minimum of 60 entries to hold the show.)
  3. They need to be properly matted & framed with wire hangers securely attached to the back.
  4. Very important that you tag your work with its title, your name, phone #, & price on the back.
  5. Each artist is required to serve as monitor from 12:00-4:00 PM (along with another artist) on one of the days that we are open (Saturdays & Sundays only).
  6. We will be holding an Artists’ reception with music & refreshments on one of the Sunday afternoons (9-21-08) during the show. Each Artist is expected to contribute a plated “finger food” (either sweet or savory) for refreshments.
  7. There will be postcard invitations for you to mail to your friends & potential customers.
  8. In the past we have had a drawing for a contributed painting or print; so if we do that again, we will need a donation for that – let me know if you would like to donate a work of art for this.
  9. Only full members who are current with their annual dues may participate in this show as exhibitors.

Associate members are encouraged to attend and help in any way that you wish, including sending invitations to your friends and family.

Sandra Jones will be our demonstrator at the meeting on August 30

Captivated by the elegance of the human form, figurative painter Sandra Jones expresses her homage through meticulous rendering and bold palettes. Employing painterly brush strokes of crisp and soft edges with hard shadows that cling to her beguiling subjects, the resulting piece commands the viewer’s attention to both detail and spiritual expression.

“My determination is to capture my subject in a moment of introspective solitude and personal resolve,” Sandra explains. “The essence of the painting is the mystery of femininity – the sweet fragrances of strength, confidence, grace – conveyed through vibrant color and vulnerable emotion.”

Sandra has won numerous distinguished awards for her paintings in pastel, charcoal and mixed media, as well as airbrush. Recently, her highly acclaimed pastel piece entitled “Lost in Thought” was purchased by the Triton Museum of Art (Santa Clara, CA) for its permanent collection – a rare and prestigious honor for an emerging artist. Her works can be found in art collections across the country and in Europe.

Ed Lucey will be our demonstrator at the next meeting on July 26

Ed Lucey, a Los Gatos resident, owned a design business for many years but now paints full-time. About his painting he says “No matter what the subject, I like to show the brushwork or ‘structure’ of the painting with a technique known as ‘alla prima’. There is a wealth of subject matter here in California and I tend to paint scenes from the Bay Area and surrounding countryside”. He is currently showing at Los Gatos Framing in Los Gatos, among other places.
