City of Campbell Launches New Art Project

Filed under: Art Shows on February 21, 2015 5:10 pm

With the help of several members of the Campbell Artists’ Guild, the City of Campbell and its Civic Improvement Commission has just launched its utility box beautification project, Art Outside the Box. You may have noticed the results of such projects throughout San Jose or Santa Cruz, and other nearby cities where
artist have undertaken the beautification of utility boxes.

Art Outside the Box provides an opportunity for artists residing in Santa Clara County to paint one of up to ten utility boxes throughout Campbell. It would be such a source of pride for the Guild if one or more artists from within our organization were selected to participate. An Honorarium is offered and the amount depends on the box selected. Box prep and sealing will be provided by the city. If you think you might be interested, please see the City’s website www.cityofcampbell.com for links to more information on eligibility, guidelines, box locations, photos, plus instructions on how to submit your application and conceptual drawing.

To participate, you must be a resident of Santa Clara County. Your application and concept must be received by 5:00 p.m. on April 3, 2015.

If painting a utility box is not your strong suit, you may still participate by becoming a patron or donor (no amount is too small), and you may do so on the web site or in person.

16th Annual Art Show

Filed under: Art Shows on July 21, 2014 11:56 am

Fellow Exhibitors,

Registration Day is quickly approaching and I am confident Triton Curator Preston Metcalf will once again provide a stellar job in hanging and lighting our art. Well known, local artist and recently appointed as President of the Board of Trustees for the Triton Museum of Art, Jeff Bramschreiber, will be our officiating judge this year. Award ribbons will be installed by opening day: Friday, August 1.

Registration Day – Saturday, July 26, 11:00 a.m. until noon

–           Please arrive on time.

–           Guild Board members have graciously volunteered to help with registering your art so the process should go smoothly and quickly.

–           Additional instructions will be provided to you that morning.

–           We have our General meeting at 1:30 p.m. that day so we all want to have a bite to eat beforehand and attend the meeting on time.

–           If you have business collateral (business cards, brochures) please bring them for the duration of the show.

Artists’ Reception – Sunday, August 3, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

–           Please plan to arrive at 12:30 p.m.

–           This is a joint effort and every exhibitor is asked to help set up and tear down the refreshment tables, and help with other duties as needed.

–           Note that when preparing food or purchase of festive libations, we are expecting 100+ guests to this event. Please plan accordingly.

–           All Guild members are invited to attend the reception and provide support to their fellow artists.

–           Award recipients will be acknowledged at the reception.

Hosting – Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, noon-4:00 p.m. the month of August

–           Please understand that if you are unable to honor the day(s) you have signed up to host, you are responsible for finding another Exhibitor to switch dates with or find a Guild artist to take your place at a cost of $20 payable to that artist. If at all possible, please provide at least 24-hour notice.

–           There must be two hosts in attendance at all times.

Pick Up Art – Saturday, September 6, 11:00 a.m.-noon

You will sign out your art on this day so be prepared to patiently wait your turn in this process. Failure to pick up all your art will result in a charge of $5 per piece per day payable to the Art Show Chair for storage but, the Art Show Chair cannot be responsible for damage that may occur while storing your art.

Thanks much.

This year, I thought it would be a great deal more fun if we selected three (3) artists from this year’s competition for advertising our annual event at the Triton Museum of Art. What a wonderful turnout of talent that was entered for this special competition!

Thanks to member Dave Eisbach’s suggestion of assembling Cambrian Art League’s two-tiered display. It was very much needed to display the overflow of art that was entered.

Congratulations go out to the following artists whose work was selected for this year’s post card:

Dianne Daly • “Tea”
Annie Olander • “Lone Cypress”
Frieda Tesler • “Tea Service”

Our full color, 4”x6” post cards will be available starting at our June 28 meeting.

Also available will be an electronic version of the post card both in JPEG and PDF format for Guild members to use in e-mailing friends, family, and work associates.

The printed post cards, if you choose to mail them, require no extra postage.

Thank you everyone for your enthusiastic involvement in our 16th Annual Post Card Competition!
