January 24, 2015 CAG meeting

Filed under: Meetings on January 16, 2015 2:51 am

DATE: January 24, 2015
TIME: 1:30 p.m. (1:15 p.m. if competing)
LOCATION: First Congregational Church at 1980 Hamilton Avenue, San Jose

A happy and creative new year to you all. 2015 promises to be an exciting year for CAG, starting with this month’s meeting.

Our demonstrator, Michael Rogan, will demonstrate techniques and materials that may be new to many of us (for example, water soluble graphite and conté). He is an extremely accomplished artist who works in a wide variety of mediums with a passion for figure drawing. You won’t want to miss this one. Nothing inspires creativity or evokes new artistic directions better than seeing and trying a new medium.

Remember to bring your favorite photos to February’s meeting. We’ll be choosing two to serve as inspiration for our next club art project.

Please take some time this month, check your schedules and commitments, and consider running for a CAG office. In February we’ll be taking nominations. If you have questions about a specific office (e.g., the duties, amount of work, time or commitment requested to fulfill the position) current officers are happy to give you all the details.

Again, happy new year everyone!

Barbara Weiss, President

We had an unexpected guest join us in the festivities: Alan Zisser, Chairman of the Campbell Civic Improvement Commission (CCIC). Alan provided a brief talk about the civic project under way by the City of Campbell that involves the painting of the City’s utility boxes by creative artists in our community.

December 6, 2014 CAG meeting

Filed under: Meetings on November 24, 2014 1:47 am

DATE: December 6, 2014
TIME: 1:30 p.m. (1:15 p.m. if competing)
LOCATION: First Congregational Church at 1980 Hamilton Avenue, San Jose

It’s hard to believe that the holidays are already here. I’m writing this a few days before Thanksgiving and realize it’s time to shift into high gear: gifts to purchase, wrap and ship (downer: the post office/UPS lines); cookies and holiday goodies to bake; turkeys to consider, or maybe beef this year; deck the halls, admire the lights; the parties, the hustle the bustle – and the fun.

Included in the fun part is our December holiday meeting. I’m looking forward to enjoying good food, good conversation, and of course, great art with you all on December 6. We’ll view our individual, always creative interpretations of the two photos in September. I know I’ve said it before, but our twice yearly group projects are my favorite events. Bring your art, gather your trading cards, wrap up your potluck goodies, and I’ll see you at 1:30 p.m. on the December 6. Oh, and don’t forget your eating utensils and plate!

Happy holidays everyone.

Our October demonstrator is Barbara J. Allen from Zentangle®. If you’re unfamiliar with this art form that uses structured patterns, you’re in for a treat. This art form is often bold, graphic, and highly addictive. Once you start it’s hard to stop – a don’t miss event!
