Ongoing Classes

University Art. Classes in San Jose, Redwood City, and Sacramento
UArt offers a variety of classes for honing your skills, always in an inviting, enriching classroom environment. Our longstanding reputation as an artist’s premier resource is reflected in our ability to attract a wide array of seasoned, sought-after guest instructors covering a variety of topics (e.g. drawing or painting with a variety of media).

Pacific Art League – weekly fine arts classes
The Pacific Art League offers weekly fine arts classes, each quarter, in a variety of media. The League prides itself on individualized attention; so most of their classes allow a maximum of 12 students. Generally classes meet for two to three hours. They also have classes for children.

Filoli – Art and Decorative Art
The picturesque surroundings of Filoli make a wonderful venue for art and artists, providing inspiration and a range of valuable resources. Students can experience one-on-one instruction and personal guidance while attending 2 – 5 day classes or work on their own during special Artist Access Days.

Art classes and workshops with Barbara Stanton
Barbara Stanton offers art classes for adults and children, Miniature Painting Workshops, and the Figure Drawing Workshop with live models.

Campbell Recreation Department
Quarterly Recreation Activity Guide has a section for various art classes. The Guide is available in hard copy at the Campbell Recreation Office, City Hall, the Campbell Library, and on-line.

NUMU Atelier
All classes will be held at 4 Tait Avenue, Los Gatos, until further notice. Please contact 408.354.2646 or with any questions.

Sandra Jones – drawing human body in charcoal
Sandra teaches her technique in classes limited to six people (Wed 10-1, Tue 6:30-9:30pm; $50 per class). Studio is located in Campbell, CA. (408) Call: 371-0077.

Watercolor with Kay Duffy at Hakone Gardens
Explore and practice watercolor techniques, materials, and artful handling of various subjects with this excellent teacher. Each session includes a brief lecture, demonstration and critique. Emphasis is on individual assistance, improving your painting and design skills and having fun! Students chose class subjects and may bring other work for critique.
Dates: Every 2nd and 4th Monday morning
Time: 9:30 am to Noon
Place: Meet in the crafts area at Hakone Gardens. Follow Kay’s signs.
Fee: $20/class only when you attend

Watercolor or Watermedia Classes with Edna Wagner Piersol (Windes)
No knowledge of materials or technique is needed. Just follow Edna’s lead.
Supplies provided with Watercolor Guaranteed class.

Weekly Classes with Linda Harris “Drawing and Painting From Life”
Portrait Models and Still Life with Linda F. Harris, PSWC, SWA
Monday afternoons, 1:30 – 4:30
University Art Store, San Jose
Class fee is $25 per class, monthly tuition required. Model fees are additional with portrait classes.
A class which will help you create strong paintings! There is no substitute to learning to see from life. All levels welcome. With an emphasis on drawing, understanding structure and getting a likeness, you will have a good foothold to address the ins and outs of composition, values and color working from models and still life setups. Recommended medias are oil and pastel.

Beginning and advanced paper mache sculpture classes
Time: Wednesday evening, 8 – 10 pm.
Recycle materials to create your artwork. Learn how to build a sculpture from newspaper, cardboard and plastic bottles.
Location: Cambrian area San Jose (private house).
The rate is $20 including materials.

SCVWS has a strong committee to sponsor workshops and demonstrations throughout the year, and for several years in advance.
