Having grown up in the foothills of Cupertino, California, Evelyn had a daily view of Mt.. Hamilton and the Diablo Range. The hills, now a part of the Fremont Oldere Open Space, were her backyard playground. Recently, she has explored backpacking in the High Sierras. She has also been fascinated by volcanoes for decades. The stunning scenery of the high mountains and the comforting feeling of rolling hills inspire her artwork tht depicts both. Choosing a stylized representation allows her to use color vividly and freely.
Evelyn is a self-taught hand paper maker. She has been making paper by hand from plant fibers for nearly two decades. Since retiring from her teaching career, she has had more time to dedicate to this craft, and she enjoys exploring the endless combinations of fibers and inclusions. She especially loves the look and textureof paper made from fibrous plants such as iris leaves, corn husks, mushroom, and banana peels. Wanting to create more than sheet of paper and note cards, Evelyn began experimenting with collage and decoupage to create uniquely textured “paper paintings.”
