Mayumi Schmidt was born in Japan and moved to California at the age of 38. She began taking art classes at West Valley College as a fine arts major. She studied color theory, photography, ceramics, and drawing as well as oil and acrylic painting for six years. Mayumi’s style was mostly abstract; she enjoyed working in collage by using natural resources in a three dimensional way. In 2015, after stepping away from art for a decade, Mayumi was influenced by artist Dale Snyder (her mother-in-law) at which time she became interested in watercolor and continues to be fascinated by its many techniques.
